The Site - The exciting debut novel by Andrew Dawber
Mark Bradley is a graduate structural engineer, high on qualifications, low on experience.
He sets to work on his first construction site, to help control the building of Miltonshire
Council's new offices and make his first mark on the world. From day one the site
is fraught with difficulties and the problems are set to multiply when a cockney
ex-con has the site lined up for a protection racket. But there is a deeper problem
that everyone has missed and it is about to have disastrous consequences. Who will
carry the blame when it all goes wrong? Not Teflon-coated Harvey, the man in charge,
nor the politicians at the council. They have their own political agendas. That just
leaves Mark. He must expose the truth, escape death from the racketeers and find
himself a good woman before the site is complete.
The Site - Reviews
'The Site is an engaging, entertaining fictional account of an engineers
first job on a construction site. It's a very satisfying read.'
American Society of Civil Engineers.
'It's true to life and fun to read. We have ordered 50 copies to use in one of our
classes and as gifts to our Corporate Partner construction companies.
Clemson University USA (Construction Science and Management.)
I thought that I would write and let you know that I have made your book a required
reading assignment in my senior construction management class. I am always telling
them my horror stories in the real world of construction. Your book adds some humorous
back-up to my stories. I will be using the book on a discussion board, asking a few
questions and then allowing the students to respond and make new inquiries on their
own. If you see books going to Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, it’s my class.

'Construction has inspired surprisingly few great works of literature, but a new
book by structural engineer Andrew Dawber is apparently taking the US by storm. Billed
as 'a tongue in cheek tale of a project that goes disastrously wrong', the novel
doesn't shy away from telling it how it is.'
Building Magazine (UK)
'Any book that begins with the sentence 'All architects are morons,' gets my vote.
It's an entertaining read and it's great to read a novel about construction.'
